State Assembly candidate and Palo Alto City Councilmember Marc Berman has earned the endorsement of Menlo Park City Councilmember and former Mayor Peter Ohtaki in his campaign for the 24th Assembly District. As the lone Republican in the race, Councilmember Ohtaki finished in third-place in the primary for the 24th district with 19.8% of the vote, narrowly missing advancing to the general election.
“Marc Berman is the best choice for State Assembly,” said Councilmember Ohtaki. “Marc is committed to fiscal responsibility, local control, and education reform. He will work across the aisle to benefit our communities. I'm proud to endorse Marc.”
“I’m honored and excited to have Peter’s support. He is a well-respected leader in San Mateo County with a reputation for being a pragmatic problem solver,” said Berman. “Peter and I share a commitment to bipartisanship, public safety, fiscal responsibility, and budget transparency. I look forward to reaching across the aisle to move our state forward if I’m elected on November 8th.”
Berman has emerged as the clear frontrunner in the race, with a recent poll showing him with a 14-point lead over his opponent that builds on his strong first-place finish in the primary. Berman also has a 3-to-1 cash on hand advantage heading into the final stretch of the campaign. Since the primary his campaign has received endorsements from Secretary of State Alex Padilla, State Treasurer John Chiang, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone, Mountain View Councilmember and primary opponent Mike Kasperzak, the California Young Democrats, the California Professional Firefighters, and the Police Officers Research Association of California.
They join numerous state and local leaders in supporting Berman for State Assembly, including incumbent Assemblymember Rich Gordon, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, former California State Controller Steve Westly, Assembly Speaker pro Tempore Kevin Mullin, Assembly Majority Leader Ian Calderon, the entire San Mateo County Board of Supervisors - President Warren Slocum, Vice President Don Horsley, Carole Groom, Adrienne Tissier, and Dave Pine, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, Equality California, California Labor Federation, and AFSCME California PEOPLE.
