State Assembly candidate and Palo Alto City Councilmember Marc Berman has earned the endorsement of Treasurer John Chiang in his campaign for the 24th Assembly District.

“I'm proud to support Marc because he shares my commitment to financial responsibility and transparency so that taxpayers have confidence in how the government is spending their money. He led the effort to make Palo Alto's budget more transparent through the Budget in Brief - a simplified document that explains how tax dollars are being spent. Marc has the right mix of public, private, and non-profit sector experience to hit the ground running in Sacramento and be an effective advocate for the residents of the 24th Assembly District,” said Treasurer Chiang.

“I'm honored to have the support of Treasurer John Chiang. In his position as Treasurer, and before that as the state Controller, John has fought to make the State’s finances more transparent and accountable to the public, and to weed out waste, fraud and abuse of public funds. His work is critical to increasing the public's trust in how their tax dollars are being spent, and I look forward to partnering with him to expand these efforts,” said Berman.

With his endorsement of Berman, Treasurer Chiang joins numerous state and local leaders in supporting Berman for State Assembly, including incumbent Assemblymember Rich Gordon, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, former California State Controller Steve Westly, Assembly Speaker pro Tempore Kevin Mullin, Assembly Majority Leader Ian Calderon, Assemblymembers Rob Bonta, David Chiu, Marc Levine, Evan Low, and Phil Ting, Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen, Sheriff Laurie Smith, and Supervisor Ken Yeager, San Mateo County Supervisors Don Horsley, Dave Pine, Warren Slocum, and Adrienne Tissier, Sunnyvale Mayor Glenn Hendricks and Vice Mayor Gustav Larsson, Peninsula Young Democrats, Silicon Valley Young Democrats, Equality California, California Labor Federation, AFSCME California PEOPLE, the Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA) Pacific Southwest Region, Northern California Carpenters Regional Council, Faculty Association of California Community Colleges, Palo Alto Police Officers’ Association, and Palo Alto and San Mateo County Firefighters.
