CAL FIRE Local 2881 Endorses Marc Berman for State Assembly

State Assembly candidate and Palo Alto City Councilmember Marc Berman has earned the endorsement of CAL FIRE Local 2881. Public safety organizations continue to rally in support of Berman’s candidacy, as Local 2881 joins the California Professional Firefighters, Palo Alto Firefighters (Local 1319), San Mateo County Firefighters (Local 2400), Palo Alto Police Officers Association, Peace Officers Research Association of California, and Santa Clara County Sheriff Laurie Smith in endorsing Berman.

“CAL FIRE Local 2881 firefighters are heroes who battle the toughest wildfires under extraordinarily difficult conditions. It is an honor to have their support,” said Berman. “I will work to ensure that our firefighters have the personnel, equipment, and training they need to keep us safe, and I am committed to fighting climate change that is contributing to record droughts and wildfires that are increasing in frequency and intensity.”

CAL FIRE Local 2881, an affiliate of The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF), represents employees of The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). Local 2881 represents over 6,000 current and retired employees, including Firefighters, Fire Apparatus Engineers, Fire Captains, Battalion Chiefs, Foresters, Pilots, Supervisors, Forestry Logistics Officers, Fire Prevention Specialists and other classifications.

Berman’s campaign continues to build momentum and he is the clear frontrunner in the race, with a recent poll showing him with a 14-point lead over his opponent. Since the primary his campaign has also built a significant fundraising advantage and received endorsements from Secretary of State Alex Padilla, State Treasurer John Chiang, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone, Mountain View Councilmember and primary opponent Mike Kasperzak, and the California Young Democrats.
